Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and students of the Stihia club gathered at the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Gomel to prayerfully honor the icon of the Mother of God “The Burning Bush.” On the day of its celebration, September 17, at the end of the Divine Liturgy, the dean of the churches of the Gomel city district, Archpriest Igor Olshanov, performed a prayer service.
The image of the “Burning Bush” is revered by rescuers who turn to the Most Holy Theotokos with prayer for intercession and help in their ministry. In front of this icon, believers pray for protection from fires and other disasters, for the preservation of the lives of those who come to the aid of people.
On behalf of the Gomel diocese, Archpriest Igor Olshanov donated an icon of the holy righteous John of Kormyansky to the head of the Gomel regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus, Colonel of the Internal Service Vitaly Vyacheslavovich Bokun.
The celebration of the Burning Bush icon of the Mother of God coincides with National Unity Day. Joint prayer on this day recalls the Christian calling to maintain peace, care for others and support each other in trials.
