In the images: Following Saint Evlogia of Samurcăștei, in her birth villagetranslated

On October 4th, there will be a local proclamation of the canonization of Saint Evlogia at the Monastery of Samurcăștei.

The Reverend is among the holy women canonized last year by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church and was an indefatigable preacher of the Christian faith on our territory. Her origins, however, are linked to the territory of Greece.

Saint Evlogia was born into an Aromanian family in 1908 in the village of Nevesca in the western Macedonia region of Greece.

In 1926, the name of the settlement was officially changed to Nymfaio (Νυμφαίο), as it is known and still referred to today.

If, in the past, during its maximum development period, it housed up to 3,500 people, according to the 2021 census, only about 60 permanent residents remain.
