Participants of the Paraskeva ensemble learned how to bake prosphoratranslated

July 20, 2026 · 1 min read

On July 18, students of the vocal ensemble “Paraskeva” visited the prosphora room at the church in the name of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity in the city of Novoulyanovsk, where they were given a lesson in baking prosphoras.

Under the guidance of senior prosphora worker Irina Osipova, the girls kneaded the dough, rolled it out and prepared the blanks using seals, after which they made the second part of the prosphora and connected both halves.

In the process of work, Irina talked about the symbolism: the two parts of the prosphora represent the two natures of Jesus Christ - Divine and human. The children also learned about different types of prosphoras: the Theotokos prosphora, on which the face of the Mother of God is depicted with a seal, and the service prosphora, used by the priest at the proskomedia to prepare the Lamb.

All the prosphora made by the girls were used during the service at the Sunday Liturgy.
