Nothing good comes from kicking people out of their own church building. That same temple in Zaporizhzhia was built and maintained by the UOC for decades; now it's just handed over. Sad way to treat fellow Christians.
Și la noi în parohie am auzit de cazul ăsta din Zaporojie. Biserica a fost ridicată și întreținută zeci de ani de credincioșii UOC, iar acum e dată așa, peste noapte, altora. Nu înțeleg cum se rezolvă astfel de lucruri fără să se ajungă la judecată sau măcar la o discuție între ei. Trist.

I get what you mean, Matthew – the UOC did build and maintain that church for years, so it feels unfair to just hand it over. Still, the local council had been renting it from the city since the 90s, and the lease simply wasn’t renewed. It’s messy either way. Do you think there’s any better way these property disputes could be sorted without anyone feeling kicked out?
The lease not being renewed does seem to be the legal sticking point here. Still, when a parish has poured decades of its own money and labour into a building, just letting the lease lapse feels like a technicality that ignores real investment. Would a longer transition period or some shared-use arrangement have been fairer?
