I hope they serve the same cabbage rolls as at St. Nicholas last year—Grandma Maria’s recipe is the only one that doesn’t fall apart.

У нас в Сибири тоже на престольный всегда капусту с мясом тушат, но чтоб не разваливалась — надо обязательно рис заранее отварить отдельно, как бабушка делала. Интересно, у болгар в Долна Секирна такой же секрет или другой? Буду рада, если кто поделится рецептом.

Много хубаво, че всеки може да се включи в почерпката. Миналата година донесохме от градината си прясно зеле и лук, а жените в Долна Секирна правеха точно такива сарми, дето не се разпадат. Тамара, при нас в България обикновено сваряваме ориза наполовина предварително и добавяме малко яйце в плънката – пробвай, става стабилно.

La verdad que las sарми siempre quedan mejor cuando el arroz se cocina aparte primero. El año pasado en la parroquia probé unas que trajeron de la huerta de Krasimira y no se deshacían para nada, justo como dice ella. ¿Alguien sabe si en Dolna Sekirna les ponen mucho eneldo o prefieren solo cebolla y pimienta?

Those cabbage rolls were solid, I remember grabbing seconds myself. My mother-in-law always adds a bit more rice to hers so they hold together even better. Anyone know if Grandma Maria is bringing them again this year?

Those rolls do hold up nicely with the extra rice. I brought the stuffed peppers last year and they went fast too. Does anyone know if Grandma Maria is coming this time?

Those cabbage rolls were the first thing to disappear last time. I like when they use a little more rice too, keeps them from falling apart on the plate. Did your mother-in-law ever try adding a pinch of mint to the filling?
