October 4, 2026 · 1 min read

The full text of the Synodal Tomos proclaiming the canonization of St. Pious Antonina was presented on Sunday at the Tismana Monastery in Gorj County.

The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church

To the Reverend Clergy, the Reverend Monk and the beloved faithful laymen of the Romanian Patriarchate,

Grace, peace and joy from God, and from Us, bishop's blessings!

It is fitting and worthy of all praise to honor the memory of those who have accomplished themselves in holiness, who have gained courage from God because of their virtuous life. The Most Holy Trinity ordained from eternity to make them worthy of the likeness of God, sharing with them the light of the grace of the Holy Spirit and placing them in the Church of the righteous, in the company of the saints. About them, our Lord Jesus Christ tells us that, because they listened to His word, they became "His friends" (John 15, 14).

The Church honors these saints with praises and songs, as the Prophet David says, inspired by God: "I greatly honored Your friends, O God, and their dominion was greatly strengthened" (Psalm 138, 17). Truly, the saints fulfilled his word and will...

Finally, the tome was fully announced in the Monastery of Tympana. I had heard about Saint Anthonynea for years, but I did not know the details of her life. May the Roman Catholic Church bless this decision. I hope they translate the text into Arabic so we can read it in full.

It is interesting that the tomos was read in Tisman on Sunday. And the text ends with “the saints fulfilled His word and His will” - they probably write further about her life. It’s a pity that they haven’t translated it into Arabic yet, as Fadi asks.

The article cuts off right at “the saints fulfilled the word and will of Him,” so I’m curious what comes next about St. Antonina’s life at Tismana. It’s good they read the full tomos there on a Sunday – makes it feel like the whole community was part of it. I hope they do put out an Arabic translation soon, like Fadi asked.

I think it's really nice that they read the whole tomos on Sunday in Tismana, where she lived. The text ends at "sfinții au ħalħħat ħalħa și voia lui", so I am interested in what he writes next about her life in the monastery. I hope that soon they will publish a translation in several languages, so that we too can read the whole story.

I loved that they read the whole volume right in Tismana on Sunday, where Saint Antonina lived. The text cuts off at "sfinții au părățiți și voia lui", so I am waiting to see what she writes next about her life in the convent. I hope they will release a Greek translation soon, so that we can all read it here.

Yes, Fadi, the tomos they published on Sunday in the Tasmana Monastery is really complete and clear. I also heard about Saint Antonina a long time ago, but I learned the details of her real life after I read the Romanian translation. I hope they translate it into Arabic soon so everyone can read it calmly.

The bit about the saints being "friends of Christ" from John 15 always sticks with me too. I looked up St Antonina after the service last week – she really did live a hidden life of prayer right there at Tismana for decades before anyone noticed. An Arabic version would be handy for our Arabic-speaking parishioners; wonder if they’ll have it ready by the next feast.
