A special project on the revival of the 17th-century iconography tradition of the Moscow Kremlin's Armory Chamber will be presented for the first time at the second autumn academic art fair "Art Russia. Classic," which will take place from September 24 to 27, 2026, in the Gostiny Dvor in Moscow.

The unique project is being showcased by the Workshop of Sergei and Alla Smirnovs from Rybinsk, who are restoring ancient Russian iconography techniques, reported to "Foma" magazine by the press service of the "Art Russia. Classic" fair.

Sergei and Alla Smirnov, iconographers, will display icons created specifically for the fair using ancient techniques with natural pigments and gilded gold leaf.

— The project of Sergei and Alla Smirnov demonstrates how much knowledge, labor, and continuity goes into creating each icon and how important it is today to support masters who preserve this tradition, said the founder of the fair, President of the "Synergy" Corporation Vadim Lobov.

The majority of works in the exhibition were created specifically for "Art Russia." For the first time at the fair, they will showcase icons of the Theotokos "Skoroposlushnitsa," "Theotokos Kazanskaya," and "Unburnable..."
