Suicide bomber attacks police complex in Pakistan during prayer: many dead

On September 18, a police compound was attacked in the city of Kohat in northwestern Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of at least 16 people—five police officers and 11 civilians. More than 30 people were injured. The attack began during Friday prayers near a mosque in the compound, after which a shootout ensued between police and armed attackers. Police reported a suicide attack and continue to establish the exact sequence of what happened, Reuters reports.

The attack took place in the city of Kohat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on September 18. The target was the Old Police Lines complex, where police and counter-terrorism units are located.

The attack began during Friday prayers with an explosion near a mosque inside the complex. At that moment, police officers, members of their families and other civilians were there.
