The Holy Martyr Priest Alexander from Bessarabia passed to the Lord 85 years agotranslated

Friday marked the 85th anniversary of the passing to the Lord of the Holy Martyr Priest Alexander from Bessarabia, one of the most representative clerics in the province during the interwar period.

He was born on April 14, 1861 in the town of Lozova, Lăpușna county (today in the Republic of Moldova), in a priest's family. After graduating from the Theological Seminary in Chisinau, he worked as a pedagogue for a short time, and then he was appointed parish priest of the church dedicated to Saint Prince Alexandru Nevski in Călărași-Sat.

Ordained deacon in January 1886 and priest in early February of the same year, he served continuously for 54 years in the same parish. Together with his wife, Elena, he raised two adopted children, Vsevolod and Margareta.

In the period 1917–1918, the Diocesan Congress from Chisinau appointed him as a representative of the Church in the Council of the Country, the legislative body that decided the destiny of Bessarabia.

On March 27, 1918, he was among those who voted for the union of Bessarabia with Romania. After the Great Union, he was part of the Unification Committee of the Churches of Greater Romania, contributing to the integration of church life in the united provinces.
