St. Jer. Paul the Confessor, Patriarch of Constantinople; St. Cuv. Luca of Sicilytranslated

Orthodox calendar, November 6 Saint Paul the Confessor Saint Paul the Confessor, Patriarch of Constantinople was originally from Thessalonica. He was elected Patriarch in 340 at the end of August. He fought for the defense of Orthodoxy against the Arian heresy.
But the emperor Constantius (337-361), being an Arian, removed Paul, sending him to Mesopotamia in exile, and in his place he put Eusebius of Nicomidia. Going to Rome, Paul met Athanasius, who had also been banished by Constantius.
The Western emperor Constantine II wrote to his brother, Constantius, that if the two bishops were not reinstated, he would come with an army against him. Paul regained his seat, but he pastored for a short time because, after the death of Constantine II, he was exiled to Cucuzon, in Armenia, where he was killed in 351.
