Orthodox calendar October 8 Saint Pious Pelagia She was an artist of the theater in Antioch. She was a woman of easy morals. She converted to Christianity, repenting for her sins, thanks to Bishop Non of Iliopolis. He baptized her and gave her the name Pelagia, then entrusted her to the pious deaconess Romana to guide her on the right path.
He distributed the wealth he had to the servants and the Church, and eight days after his baptism he went secretly to Jerusalem. Here, he withdrew to the desert in a cell and took the name of Pelagie, disguising himself as a monk. At her death († 457) she was discovered to be Pelagia and was buried in the cell in which she died.
