The celebration in honor of the ancient Pisidian icon of the Mother of God (IV century) is celebrated by the Orthodox Church on September 16.

Information about the origin of this miraculous myrrh-streaming image of the Virgin Mary has not been preserved, but it is known that she was glorified by great miracles in the city of Sozopol of Pisidia in Asia Minor (now the territory of Turkey).

Already in the messages on icon veneration read at the VII Ecumenical Council in 787, Patriarch Herman of Constantinople called this icon ancient.

The first miracles for which the Pisidian image of the Mother of God became famous and which are known date back to the 6th century.

So, in particular, in the second half of the 6th century, one couple from the city of Amasia had dead children for a long time. The couple turned for help to Patriarch Eutychius of Constantinople, who was exiled to the city. The high priest prayed for the couple and then anointed them with holy oil from the Pisidian icon. After a while, the couple had a son, who, by order of Patriarch Eutyches, was named Peter, and later another son was born - John.

Evidence has also been preserved of the myrrh-streaming of the Pisidian icon - the holy myrrh flowed from the hand of the Mother of God. Yes, this was evidenced...
