"Let's look around and help those who are suffering", urged Metropolitan Laurentiu of Transylvania on Sunday, at the "Nastrea Maii Domnului" Monastery in Măgura-Jina, Sibiu county.

The monastic settlement celebrated its second patron saint, dedicated to the Icon of the Mother of God "Prodromitsa".

His Eminence emphasized that the Savior always showed mercy towards man in trials: "The first teaching of today's Gospel is that Christ, as true God, as the One who became incarnate for our salvation, had special mercy towards human suffering".

The Metropolitan of Transylvania explained that the healing of the emaciated begins with his soul restoration, before physical recovery.

"The Savior first healed the soul of the one who came brought by the four men. We observe the divine pedagogy of the Savior Jesus Christ Who, like a great spiritual man, knew the sin that attracted the disease of impotence," said His Eminence.

That part about the four men carrying the paralyzed guy really stuck with me. It’s a good reminder that sometimes the suffering person can’t even get to church on their own, so the rest of us have to step up and help carry them, whether that’s through prayer, a ride, or just showing up. The metropolitan’s point about healing the soul first before the body makes a lot of sense too.
