Romanians in history: Ecaterina Teodoroiu, the heroine who became a symbol of courage and sacrifice for the countrytranslated

Saturday marks the 109th anniversary of the death of Ecaterina Teodoroiu, scout and participant in the First World War, who remained in the memory of Romanians as one of the representative female figures of the country's defense.
Born on January 14, 1894, in Vădeni, a locality that later became a neighborhood of the Târgu Jiu municipality, Cătălina Vasile Toderoiu (she later took the name Ecaterina) came from a large family.
She studied in her hometown and in Târgu Jiu, and later she prepared for a teaching career and attended the courses of a nursing school.
From scout to volunteer on the front In the years before the war, Ecaterina Teodoroiu got close to the scouting movement. From 1913 he was part of the "Păstorul Bucur" cohort, and after returning to Târgu Jiu he continued his work in the "Domnul Tudor" cohort.
The outbreak of the First World War, however, would radically change his course. In 1916, Catherine first participated in the care of the wounded, as a scout and nurse.
