The fairy tale has been and remains a key genre in cinema, film director and producer Sergei Selyanov said this in the podcast “Gathered with Thoughts,” which is hosted on Channel One by the Chairman of the Synodal Department for Relations of the Church with Society and the Media, editor-in-chief of the magazine “Thomas” Vladimir Legoida.
The conversation in the new episode of the podcast took place within the framework of the XII International Forum of United Cultures in St. Petersburg.
Being a practicing cinematographer, Sergei Selyanov did not assess whether cinema is “dead”, but stated that the main thing in cinema is the story and the hero, and the fairy tale remains the key genre, where the victory of the hero carries an important hint.
The director emphasized that he creates films specifically for the cinema, seeing in it, first of all, entertainment, while striving to preserve a special artistic world, even turning to science fiction and new technologies.
At the same time, the actor remains in the foreground for Sergei Selyanov, because, in his opinion, the power of cinema lies in the sensual and rational work of its creators.
