July 1, 2026 · 1 min read

"Being human, we also have falls, in the face of which we must not despair", explained Vicar Bishop Teofil Trotușanul of the Roman and Bacău Archdiocese.

On Sunday, His Eminence officiated the Vespers service at the "Saints Peter and Paul" Church in Roman, on the occasion of the patron saint of the place of worship.

The hierarch highlighted that the lives of the two Apostles show how God's grace can transform human weaknesses into an occasion for holiness and confession.

"Through the two pillars of the Church, Christ the Redeemer fulfilled the mission of making God's will known and saving people."

The lesson of repentance Referring to the Holy Apostle Peter, the vicar bishop explained that his rejection of the Savior, explaining that God allowed this trial so that the apostle would know the power of repentance and return.

"Restored to the dignity of an apostle after the Savior's resurrection, he answers with all the devotion to the three questions of Jesus: Peter, do you love me? with Yes, Lord, I love you. His human testimony, full of fear and hesitation, had become an answer to the glory and power of the Resurrection", said His Eminence.

Seeing the church in Roman dedicated to Peter and Paul reminded me of our own St. Peter and Paul on Mission Street—our priest often says Peter’s denial wasn’t the end, just the start of his service, like the bishop explained.

Yes, that line about Peter's denial being the start of his real service hits home every time. Our priest at St. Peter and Paul here in Manchester says much the same after the Gospel on that Sunday, and it always makes me think of the old mechanics I knew who only got good after they'd made a proper mess of an engine first. Does your Mission Street parish have any particular custom around the feast that brings this out?
