When the Clock Strikes, We Pray Together

August 10, 2026 · 2 min read

There is a beautiful, ancient practice woven into the heart of our Orthodox tradition: gathering in prayer at a single hour, united by the same petition. Our Lord Jesus Christ promised in Matthew 18:19, “Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” This is the spirit behind our new “Prayer by Agreement” feature on Orthodox House Social, a simple yet profound way to connect with fellow believers across the globe in shared supplication.

Right now, we see this ancient practice blossoming with 11 active prayer groups already forming, each carrying a sacred list of names – the sick, the departed, the needs of our communities. A gentle reminder arrives just before the hour, inviting us to join the collective heart of prayer. Tonight, at 21:00 UTC, the global “Universal Prayer for Peace” group gathers. All are welcome to join this moment of unity, lifting our voices for the healing of the world, alongside brothers and sisters who have already committed their hearts to this hour.

Imagine your own parish, your diocese, or even a small community of sisters in Christ joining this sacred rhythm. It is a simple invitation to create a group, to keep a commemoration list for your loved ones, and to experience the power of many praying as one. Let us not hesitate to build these circles of prayer within our own communities, following the Lord’s promise.

Come, join us tonight in the Universal Prayer for Peace at 21:00 UTC. And as you feel the pull of this ancient practice, be sure to visit the Prayers section on our portal to find the groups, add your intentions, and discover the strength of praying together.
