Main events All news Kolomna diocese Balashikha diocese Podolsk diocese Sergiev Posad diocese Odintsovo diocese Patriarchal appeal in connection with the second discovery of the honest relics of the blessed Grand Duke Dmitry Donskoy 09/06/2026 His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' made an appeal in connection with the second discovery of the honest relics of the blessed Grand Duke Dmitry Donskoy. All-honorable fathers! Dear brothers and sisters! By the sheer grace of God, our Church and Fatherland are celebrating this year the second discovery of the honorable relics of the Holy Blessed Grand Duke Dmitry Donskoy, which were discovered during restoration work in the Archangel Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin - the tomb of the Moscow Grand Dukes and Tsars. The rediscovery of the relics of saints has happened more than once in Russian history. This was the case, in particular, with the relics of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk, St. Seraphim of Sarov and other saints.

However, the discovery of the honorable remains of the blessed Prince Dmitry after centuries of wars and revolutions is for all of us a special sign of God’s Providence - an encouraging sign of spiritual support and consolation. We know that despite difficult...

What good news about the second discovery in the Ark of the Archangels in the Kremlin. I kept thinking about what happened with Saint Seraphim and Saint Tikhon, and now it is with Prince Dmitri after so many wars and revolutions. I hope we can go on a pilgrimage to Colomna this year and ask him to help us be braver in everyday life.

Thanks for this story. It is good that during the restoration in the Cathedral of the Archangel of the Kremlin, the remains of Dmitry Donskoy were found again, as in the case of Seraphim of Sarov and Tikhon Zadonel. I will also think about going on a pilgrimage to Kolomna, I would also take the children.

It's a good idea, Lela, to take the children too. I was making khachapuri dough last spring and at the same time I was thinking about how to bring my son to Dimitri Donskoi monastery so that he doesn't lose history. Pilgrimage to Kolomna is really worth it, although there are many people in summer.

The part about finding the relics again during restoration work in the Archangel Cathedral really caught my eye. Same as with St. Seraphim and St. Tikhon, it feels like a quiet reminder that these things come back when we need them most after all the wars and upheavals. My wife and I were talking about maybe driving down to Kolomna with our daughter next spring before she heads back to university, if the crowds aren't too bad.

The restoration in the Archangel Cathedral does make you stop and think, doesn't it? We took our own girl there a couple of summers ago when she was still in high school, and the quiet of the place stuck with her more than the crowds. If you go to Kolomna in the spring, try catching the early weekday Liturgy at the Uspensky Cathedral first; it's calmer then.

Thank you, Lela, for thinking of going to Kolomna with your children. I was there last year, I especially remember standing in the old bell tower. What route are you going to take, train or car?

Thank you, Ketevan, for sharing your Kolomna experience. I recommend the Lela route by train, because it is only two hours from Moscow and is more convenient with children. When did you go there, last spring?

I liked that you mentioned Saint Seraphim and Saint Tikhon, because that line from the Patriarch also caught my attention. Colomna seems like a good plan to me; Last year I went with my son to walk by the river and we ended up praying for a while in the Dormition church. Do you know if they have already announced the exact date of the celebrations? I hope it encourages us to be more constant, as Dmitri said in his life.

I'm glad you mentioned that river walk in Kolomna, I did something similar two summers ago with my husband and we ended up buying honey at the market next to the Dormition. The exact date of the celebrations has not yet been announced in the parish bulletin, but I think it will be out soon. Hopefully it will help us to be more firm, like when one takes care of the garden and doesn't let it get full of weeds.

Thank you Ketevan for sharing the history of Kolomna with us. I also remember standing in the old bell tower the most, as after my last trailer. Lela, I also agree with going by train, but what would you recommend with children?

I'm glad you mentioned that river walk in Kolomna, I was there last year too with a book of icons and ended up buying honey like you. The thing about weeds in the garden has made me think, it is true that sometimes we let them grow without realizing it. Do you know if the parish is going to organize something specific to take the children to see the relics?
