The Romanian Patriarchate urges discernment and responsibility regarding the draft law on the decriminalization of drugstranslated

The Romanian Patriarchate notes with concern the draft law on the decriminalization of certain acts related to the possession of drugs for personal consumption and considers that any amendment to the legislation in this field must take into account, with priority, the defense of the gift of life, the health of the person and the good of the family and the community.
Special attention must be paid to children and young people, who are in a stage of life where they need moral benchmarks, models of healthy living. In this sense, the Romanian Patriarchate emphasizes that no legislative change must create the impression that the use of drugs represents a trivial fact or a natural behavior. Drug prevention, youth education and family support must always prevail.
The Church also draws attention to the responsibility of those who exploit people's vulnerability through drug trafficking. In the face of such practices, society is called upon to show firmness, to defend children and young people in particular and to prevent the spread of behaviors that bring suffering to the person, the family and the community.
