Patriarchate of Alexandria holds Synod on 22nd Anniversary of Patriarch Theodore’s election

Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa convened a session of the Resident Holy Synod at the Patriarchal See of Alexandria on Thursday, October 8, 2026, as part of the celebrations marking the 22nd anniversary of his election to the Patriarchal Throne of St. Mark.
The meeting brought together hierarchs from various Metropolises and Dioceses of the Patriarchate who had traveled to Alexandria to participate in the anniversary celebrations.
Opening the session, Patriarch Theodore warmly welcomed the hierarchs and expressed his gratitude to God for his 22 years of patriarchal ministry. He highlighted the continued development of the Patriarchate’s spiritual, missionary, charitable and educational activities throughout Africa.
He also thanked the bishops for their presence, emphasizing that their participation, despite the considerable distances and pastoral challenges they face, demonstrated the unity and strong spiritual bonds within the Church of Alexandria.
On behalf of the attending hierarchs, Metropolitan Theophylaktos, Elder of Caesarea, conveyed their congratulations and expressed their respect and devotion to the Patriarch.
