Patriarch of Romania: The family is where Christian virtues are learned

Patriarch Daniel of Romania attended the opening of the International Theological Symposium “The Christian Family: Light and Witness in Contemporary Society” in Bucharest on Tuesday.
The symposium, held from October 5 to 8, brings together theologians, clergy and scholars to examine the place and mission of the Christian family amid the challenges facing contemporary society.
Addressing participants, Patriarch Daniel emphasized that the family is the primary environment in which Christian faith and virtues are cultivated and transmitted from one generation to the next.
The Christian family, he stressed, is called to be an “icon of God’s love” and a living witness to faith within society. It is within family life that children first encounter values such as love, prayer, mutual respect, forgiveness, solidarity and responsibility toward others.
The symposium opened in the Patriarch Teoctist Aula Magna of the Palace of the Patriarchate in Bucharest and focuses on theological, pastoral and social perspectives concerning marriage and family life.
