It is with great joy that the parishioners of our Russian Orthodox parish of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Rochester, New York, were finally able to fully consecrate our beautiful church. This long-awaited day was supposed to take place last year, but was postponed due to the covid pandemic.

His Eminence Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, together with His Eminence Bishop Luke of Syracuse, rector of the Holy Trinity Monastery, led the consecration of the church and the subsequent Divine Liturgy, which took place on September 6, 2021.

Our Pokrovsky parish was founded after the Second World War by Russian refugees, mainly of Cossack origin. As was typical in all such cases, the founders, who zealously sought to preserve their Orthodox faith in a foreign environment, did not have the means to immediately build a church. First a garage, and then over time a large house was purchased and turned into a church. They served in this house for 50 years.
