The restoration of the Orthodox chapel-crypt, where the remains of dozens of Russian compatriots are interred, has been completed on the Christian cemetery in the capital city of Morocco, Rabat.

This was made possible with the assistance of the Russian House and Parish of the Church of the Resurrection in Rabat, reports the website of the Patriarchal Exarchate for Africa.


It is noted that among those interred in the crypt are the founders of the Russian Orthodox community in Morocco: Archimandrite Varsonofiy (Tolstukhin), Archimandrite Mitrophan (Yaroslavtsev), Count Vladimir Ignatiev, Arthur Herzberg, and Alexander Stepanovskiy.

Additionally, recently Nina El-Kinani, a long-time choir member of the Church of the Resurrection in Rabat and deputy chairperson of the Society "Russian Orthodox Church in Morocco," who passed away in August 2026, was laid to rest in the chapel-crypt.

On August 22, the parish priest, Protodeacon Maxim Massalitin, conducted the funeral service for Nina El-Kinani, after which she was interred in the crypt.
