Orthodox Church representatives to EU meet in Brussels to coordinate future initiatives

Members of the Committee of Representatives of Orthodox Churches to the European Union (CROCEU) met at the Ambiorix Orthodox Center in Brussels on Thursday, September 17.

The meeting was chaired by Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and brought together representatives of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Orthodox Churches of Greece, Romania and Bulgaria.

Participants discussed upcoming events and initiatives, cooperation with other Churches, organizations and European institutions, as well as the preparation and coordination of future projects.

Founded in March 2010, CROCEU provides a framework for cooperation among the officially appointed representatives of local Orthodox Churches to the European institutions. It seeks to facilitate consultation and coordination and to present Orthodox perspectives on issues related to European integration and developments within the EU.

The meeting also highlighted continued cooperation among the representatives of the participating Orthodox Churches and their efforts to contribute to dialogue with European institutions.

It is good that they meet regularly and coordinate issues. In November in Brussels, we will see what new will come out of the meeting on the 10th. I hope they have in mind the practical matters that concern our ecclesiastical provinces here in Greece, not just general European policies.
