A volume about the transformation of the former Sighet prison into a Memorial to the Victims of Communism was launched at the BNRtranslated

The volume "Sighet Memorial. From idea to action", signed by Prof. Eng. Nicolae Noica, was launched on Wednesday at the National Bank of Romania. The book presents the transformation of the former prison into a memorial to the victims of communism.

According to a press release sent by the Romanian Academy, the launch took place in the "Mitiță Constantinescu" hall, 33 years after the founding of the Memorial to the Victims of Communism and Resistance in Sighetu Marmații.

At the presentation of the volume, Acad took the floor. Mugur Isărescu, governor of the National Bank of Romania, acad. Marius Andruh, president of the Romanian Academy, Ana Blandiana, president of the Academia Civică Foundation, Silvia Colfescu, director of Vremea Publishing House, and the author of the book, Prof. Eng. Nicolae Noica. The meeting was moderated by Adrian Vasilescu.

Place of memory Acad. Mugur Isărescu highlighted the recuperative character of the work and the two main directions it develops.

The first direction traces the history of the building that later became the Sighet prison, and the second shows its transformation into a place of memory for the victims of communist repression.
