Orthodox Church in America and Antiochian Archdiocese discuss closer cooperation

Metropolitan Tikhon of All America and Canada welcomed Metropolitan Saba, Archbishop of New York and Metropolitan of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, to Saint Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, DC, on Monday, September 28, 2026.

The meeting focused on strengthening relations between the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) and the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, as well as exploring opportunities for closer cooperation.

Upon his arrival, Metropolitan Saba was welcomed by Metropolitan Tikhon and Archpriest Valery Shemchuk, who accompanied him on a tour of the cathedral.

The visit continued with a meeting between the two hierarchs, during which they discussed the life and witness of the Orthodox Church in North America and exchanged views on developments concerning Orthodoxy worldwide.

Particular attention was given to ways in which the two Orthodox jurisdictions could further strengthen their relationship and expand their cooperation.

The meeting highlighted the fraternal ties between the two Metropolitans and their shared commitment to promoting Orthodox unity and cooperation across North America.
