Eight Romanian parishes participated in the first football championship of the Archdiocese of Great Britain and Northern Irelandtranslated

Eight Romanian parishes in England and Wales participated in the first edition of the Football Championship of the Archdiocese of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, held in the south-west of England.

The host of the first edition was the "Holy Martyrs Epictetus and Astion" Parish in Taunton, which ensured the organization of the competition and the reception of the participants. Teams from the Romanian communities of Swansea, Bristol, Bracknell, Aylesbury, Southampton, Exeter, Taunton and Oxford took part.

Beyond the sports component, the championship offered believers, young people and priests the opportunity to meet and strengthen the ties between the Romanian communities in the United Kingdom.

The initiative is part of the efforts of the Archdiocese of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to create new moments of encounter between clergy and believers, especially between young people and families, and to strengthen the feeling of belonging to the same church community.

At the end of the competition, the team of the Parish "Holy Women of Myrrh" in Aylesbury won the diocesan football championship.
