That's rough. Lightning hitting the steeple and taking the whole place down sounds like the kind of thing you never expect on a random afternoon. Hope the firefighters kept the damage from spreading to the neighborhood.

Yeah, a lightning strike on the steeple is exactly the sort of freak thing that makes you double-check your insurance. The photos show the steeple basically gone, but at least the firefighters stopped it spreading to those houses right next door like Daniel said.

Yeah, that steeple took the full hit – you can see the charred bits in the photos. Good thing the insurance is sorted; our parish had a dodgy roof claim a few years back that took ages. Did the lightning rods on that church just give up?

That steeple really did get hammered. Our old quilt group used to meet in the basement there back in the 90s, and I remember the insurance lady always reminding us the lightning rods were only as good as the last inspection. Did they manage to save any of the stained glass?
