The feast of Agia Kyriaki in Messiniatranslated

July 7, 2026 · 1 min read

With due splendor and with the presence of a multitude of believers, the memory of the Holy Great Martyr Kyriaki was honored in the celebrating Holy Churches of the Holy Metropolis of Messinia. Arch. Neophytos Sahlas, while in the Holy Church of Agia Kyriaki Zeugolatou, Messinia, the Preacher of the Holy Metropolis Archim. George Bizas.

The Patriarch of the Holy Metropolis Archim. Philippos Hamargias, went to the mountain community of Kefalovrysos (formerly Halvatsou) and presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of Agia Kyriaki there, supported by the parish priest of Kefalovrysos, Father Ioannis Konstantopoulos.

Before the end of the Divine Liturgy, Father Philip, preaching the divine word, referred to the etymology of the name of Agia Kyriaki, emphasizing the value we have as Christians to be children of our Lord, like Agia Kyriakia. He emphasized that what will characterize us as children of the Lord are our works, actions, words and thoughts. It ended with the phrase of the Apostle Paul "We are the Lord's whether we live or die".

Χαίρομαι που ο π. Φίλιππος μίλησε για την ετυμολογια του νοματος της Αγιας Κριακίας και για το that it should be seen in our works that we are children of the Lord. The phrase of the Apostle Paul that he said at the end really stands. In Κεφαλόβρυσο πεγαν πολοιν από τα το χωριά;

Yes, I was also surprised how many people gathered in Kefalovriso from the surrounding villages. Father Philippos' sermon about the name of St. Kyriaki and that it is seen in the works that we are the children of God stayed in my mind - especially that sentence of Paul at the end. Blessed holiday.

I am glad that Father Philip reminded us of the etymology of the name of Saint Kyriaki and that being children of the Lord is visible precisely in deeds, words and thoughts. The phrase of the Apostle Paul “Eἴτε ζῶμεν εἴτε ἀποθνήσκομεν τοῦ Κυρίου ἐσμὲν” really hits the soul. Did so many people really come to Kefalovriso from neighboring villages?

Yes, a lot of people really gathered in Kefalovriso, they even came from neighboring villages, the church was full. I especially remember how Father Philip spoke about deeds and thoughts - this is the most important thing, and not just words. Pavel’s phrase often pops up in my head now. What church were you in that day?

Yes, a lot of people from the surrounding villages really gathered in Kefalovriso, the church was full. Father Philippus well said that by our actions, not by our words, we can see whether we are the Lord's children. This Pauline phrase "we live or die, we belong to the Lord" also stayed in my mind.

Yes, in Kefalovriso the church was really full, people even from neighboring villages came by car and on foot. I, too, have Father Philip’s words about deeds and thoughts in my head, especially when I’m riding a bicycle and thinking about how not to get angry in a traffic jam. Which church were you in that day?

Yes, a lot of people really gathered in Kefalovriso, even from neighboring villages. I also liked how Father Philip said about the etymology of the name - that “Kyriaki” means “of the Lord,” and this is not just beautiful, but about our whole life. Which church did you go to for the holiday?

That day I was in Akovitika, at the Church of St. Kyriaki. There were also plenty of people there, especially locals. And about the words of Father Philip, it’s true, about “the Lord’s” and about our deeds - it went straight to the soul. What village did you come from?
