Maroneia and Komotini Panteleimon: "The Thessaloniki International Exhibition and the perspective of the Rhodopes"translated

The constant flight of young scientists and workers to the big urban centers or abroad is the biggest challenge of our days for the Rhodopes, emphasizes in his article entitled: "The International Exhibition of Thessaloniki and the perspective of the Rhodopes", Rev. Metropolitan of Maroneia and Komotini Mr. Panteleimon.  His Holiness points out in his article that the Church, although it could to some extent, does not have financial tools nor does it plan development policies. "However, it has a duty to encourage every creative effort that serves man, supports the family and keeps our country alive. Development acquires real content when it is not only aimed at economic indicators, but primarily at the quality of people's lives", he notes.

The International Exhibition of Thessaloniki is every year a point of reference for the economic life of the country. It is of course a place to present products and services, but it is also a field of meetings, collaborations and exchange of ideas, where the possibilities of Greek production are tested and new perspectives for the region are formed.

Yes, the migration of young people from the Rhodopes is really a big problem. The Metropolitan is right that the church has no funds, but it can encourage people to stay here and build something - just as he writes that it is about the quality of life and not just numbers. Maybe the church choir or our garden club could do something with the young people so that they can see that there is a future here.
