The Serbian Saints were also honored this year at Eleonas Thebestranslated

July 5, 2026 · 1 min read

The Serbian Saints were also honored this year - Saint Savvas the Hilandarinos, Saint Nikolaos Velimirovic and Saint Justin Popovic, in the homonymous id. Holy Chapel, in Eleonas, Thebes, Boeotia, according to the standard (Evening on July 3 & Divine Liturgy on July 4, 2026) of the holiday.

Saint Savvas of Hilandari (1175 – 1236) was the first Archbishop of the Autocephalous Serbian Church, "reformer of Serbian monasticism", founder of the Holy Monastery of Hilandari on Mount Athos and "second founder" of the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi. Father of Saint Savvas, is Saint Simeon the Myroblytis the Chilandarinos (1114 -1199), patron of childless couples.

Their memory is commemorated on January 14 of each year.

Saint Nikolaos Velimirovic (1880 – 1956) Bishop of Ahridos and Zitsis, of the Serbian Orthodox Church, is considered as "Saint Chrysostom" of the Serbian People. In 1944, the Germans sent him to the Dachau concentration camp of Nazi Germany, where they subjected him to inhumane and horrible torture. He was released in 1945, after the fall of the Axis powers, but the communist regime of Yugoslavia considered him an undesirable person, for…

My neighbor Maria, who couldn't get pregnant, started praying to Saint Simeon the Peaceful when my son was in first grade. Now her daughter is seven years old and goes to the same school as mine. the nice thing is that Saint Simeon is also mentioned in the article.

Good that they honor the Serbian Saints in Eleonas every year. Saint Simeon the Perfumer that Violeta's neighbor says really helps childless couples a lot, I have heard it from others as well. It's a pity that the news is cut short at the end about Agios Nikolaos.

Yes, it is good that they mentioned Saint Simeon Myrovlitus as the patron saint of childless couples. Here in Poltava, one family from the church also prayed to him for five years and finally gave birth to a boy. It's a pity that the article ended in half a word about St. Nicholas, I wanted to finish reading.

Yes, Simeon Myrtochivy really helps, we also have a couple in Vinnytsia after many years of prayer who finally had twins. As for St. Nicholas, the article ended with the fact that the communists did not want to see him in Yugoslavia, he then left for America. Have you read his "Prayers on the Lake"? A very strong book.

Thanks Violetta for sharing about your neighbor Maria. Indeed, Saint Simeon the Peaceful often helps childless families, as it is written in the article. I, on the other hand, have heard similar cases from people who go on pilgrimage to Hilendar - the miracle comes after patient prayer.

Thank you for the article, I enjoyed reading about Saint Simeon Myrotočív, who helps infertile couples - here in Ostrava, a lady from our congregation prayed to him for several years and then gave birth to a little girl. It's a pity that the text ends in the middle of a sentence about Saint Nicholas, I would like to read how it turned out in America.

Thank you for the story from Ostrava, it is a beautiful testimony about Saint Simeon. Here in Olomouc, an acquaintance from the parish also prayed to him, and after years of waiting, a son was born to them. As for St. Nicholas, after Dachau he emigrated to America, where he served until his death in 1956 – unfortunately, the text really ends quite unhappily.

Thank you, Tomáš, for the story from Ostrava, that's nice to hear. Here in Prague, an acquaintance from our parish also turned to St. Simeon, and after five years of waiting, twins were born to them. As for St. Nicholas, after Dachau he emigrated to America, where he served until his death in 1956 - unfortunately the text really ends halfway through.

Glad you shared about Maria, Violetta. My son was in first grade right around the same time she started praying—apparently we were neighbors in the neighborhood. I, on the other hand, have heard that Saint Simeon often helps even after many years, not only immediately.

Yes, Simeon the Myrrh really often helps in just such cases. In our parish in Kyiv, one woman also prayed to him for five years, and then gave birth to a daughter and named her Simeon. As for the torn article, it's a pity, because there is always something to read about Velimirovich, especially his letters from Dachau. Have you tried to read his "War and the Bible" yourself?

Thank you, Violetta, for sharing exactly about Maria and her seven-year-old daughter - at the same school as my son. I, on the other hand, bake prosphora for the feast of Saint Simeon and I always think how merciful it is that he helps our neighbors as well. Do you continue to pray with her?

Thanks, George. I also know of a couple from Varna who, after years of infertility, went on a pilgrimage to Hilendar and a year later a baby boy was born to them. Prayer does require patience, as you say. Have you personally been to the monastery?

Thank you, Ivan. Nice story with the couple from Varna - I have also heard similar cases with the prayer of St. Simeon the Myrrh-bearing. Personally, I have not been to Hilendar, but I have been to the Bachkovo Monastery two summers ago, and there I prayed for the daughters. And did you go?

Thank you, Ivan. Nice story with the Varna couple - and I have heard that St. Simeon often helps just such cases, as long as one has patience. I personally have not reached Hilendar, but last year I went to Mount Athos with a group from Tarnovo and prayed in Bachkovo for some acquaintances. And when were you there?
