The Holy Church of Agia Kyriaki of Spato (VIDEO)translated

July 7, 2026 · 1 min read

The Holy Church of Agia Kyriaki Spaton combines spiritual immersion with natural beauty and an idyllic view. The church began to be built in the early 1990s and was completed in 1996. The church treasures a piece of the holy relic of Agia Kyriaki as well as an exact copy of the icon of Panagia Gerontissa from I.M. Pantocrator of Mount Athos.

Journalist Dimitris Stroumbakos is responsible for the journalism.

Looks like a nice place. Interestingly, they keep a piece of the relics of St. Kyriaki and a copy of the icon of Panagia Gerontisa from Mount Athos. When can one go to worship, surely it is open for her feast?

Yes, it looks like a very serene place with such a beautiful view. It caught my attention that they keep a particle of the relics of Saint Kyriaki and the exact copy of the icon of the Panagia Gerontissa on Mount Athos. Does anyone know if it can be visited during the week or only on the saint's holiday?

Yes, that little piece of relic of Saint Kyriaki and the copy of the Panagia Gerontissa are what impressed me the most too. I think the church is open during the week in the mornings for mass, but it is better to confirm by phone because sometimes only the caretaker is there. Have you already been to Spata or did you only see it in the video?

You noticed well, Cyril, they really keep a part of the relics of St. Kyriaki and the exact copy of the icon from Mount Athos. The church is usually open for her feast day on July 7, but it is best to call the church in advance, as it is often closed during the week. I was there two summers ago right on the holiday – quiet and very beautiful.

Nice place, you can see from the video. Interestingly, they keep a piece of the relics of St. Kyriaki and an exact copy of the icon of Panagia Gerontisa from Mount Athos. I was once in Spata in 2018, but then the church was locked during the week, it is good to call in advance.

The relic of St. Kyriaki and that exact copy of the Panagia Gerontissa icon from the Holy Mountain really stand out too. I’ve driven past Spata a few times but never stopped; sounds like I should call ahead if I want to visit on a weekday. Thanks for the video.

Yes, the little piece of Saint Kyriaki's relic left me speechless, you can see the devotion they have for her. I was there last summer on a Wednesday morning and there was actually mass, although there were only eight of us. Did you go for a special party or was it a normal visit?

Good view from Spata, the video clearly shows how quiet the place is. The fragment from the relic of Agia Kyriaki and the copy of Gerontissa from Mount Athos are indeed impressive. I've been on a Sunday morning years ago, but better call ahead, as others have said, because it's often closed.

The relic of St. Kyriaki and the copy of the Panagia Gerontissa icon really caught my eye too. I’ve never made it to Spata, but it sounds like calling ahead is a must if you’re not going on her feast day. Thanks for sharing the video.
