Florinis Irenaios: Saint Kyriaki kept unquenchable the light of Christ in her soultranslated

On Monday, July 6, 2026, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Florina, Prespa and Eordaia, Mr. Irenaios officiated at the High Priestly Vespers at the celebratory Naidrio of Agia Kyriaki in the Crater of Florina. The Vespers took part in the local authorities, the MP P.E. Florina, Mr. Stavros Papasotiriou, the President of the Municipal Council of Florina, Mr. Dimitrios Theofanidis, the President of the Community of Florina, Ms. Christiana Tsoumita and the President of the Crater Community Mr. Zisis Dimitriou as well as believers from the Parish and the wider area, who came to worship the icon of the Saint.

In his sermon, on the occasion of the verse of Apolytikios: "You saved them in the darkness of idolatry", he referred to the life and martyrdom of Saint Kyriaki, who remained steadfast in her faith in Christ despite threats and torture.

He then referred to the modern idols that distance man from God, stressing that idolatry is not only a phenomenon of the past. As he pointed out, selfishness, material goods, projection and self-sufficiency can capture man and occupy the place of Christ in his heart.
