Florinis Irenaios: Saint Kyriaki kept unquenchable the light of Christ in her soultranslated

July 7, 2026 · 1 min read

On Monday, July 6, 2026, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Florina, Prespa and Eordaia, Mr. Irenaios officiated at the High Priestly Vespers at the celebratory Naidrio of Agia Kyriaki in the Crater of Florina. The Vespers took part in the local authorities, the MP P.E. Florina, Mr. Stavros Papasotiriou, the President of the Municipal Council of Florina, Mr. Dimitrios Theofanidis, the President of the Community of Florina, Ms. Christiana Tsoumita and the President of the Crater Community Mr. Zisis Dimitriou as well as believers from the Parish and the wider area, who came to worship the icon of the Saint.

In his sermon, on the occasion of the verse of Apolytikios: "You saved them in the darkness of idolatry", he referred to the life and martyrdom of Saint Kyriaki, who remained steadfast in her faith in Christ despite threats and torture.

Thanks for sharing the news. It caught my attention when the bishop spoke about modern idols such as selfishness and material goods, because one sees that every day in the hospital. The firm faith of Saint Kyriaki gives strength, I hope we ask for it so as not to let anything take the place of Christ in our hearts.

Thanks for sharing. I especially remember how Bishop Irenaeus said about modern idols - selfishness and material things that take the place of Christ in the heart. Here in Rostov you also see this all the time, even among parents at school. It’s good that Saint Kyriakiia reminds us how we can remain faithful.

The bishop’s point about modern idols like egoism and material goods really hit home — you see it everywhere, even in the quiet corners of London. Saint Kyriaki’s steady faith amid the threats is a proper reminder to keep Christ first. Thanks for sharing the article.

Thanks for the news. I was especially struck by how Bishop Irenaeus spoke about modern idols - selfishness and material wealth, which crowd Christ out of the heart. In Yekaterinburg, in our garden and in the store, you see the same thing every day. Saint Kyriacia did well for not giving up.

Yes, the bit about modern idols – selfishness and material things crowding Christ out of the heart – struck a chord with me too. I see it with my own eyes in our garden or when a person decides what they "must" have for school for the boys. Saint Kyriaki had the strength not to budge, we should remind ourselves of that more often.
