In an atmosphere of emotion, at noon on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, by the Metropolitan of Alexandroupoli, Mr. Anthimos, a trisayo for the repose of the soul of the late Ioannis Mitrakas, was held at the premises of the "Ioannis Mitrakas" Gallery of Post-Neo-Byzantine Visual Arts, on Bouboulinas Street 12 in Alexandroupoli. The great creator fell asleep at the age of 90, in the early hours of Sunday, July 5, in Athens, leaving behind an invaluable legacy of intellectual, artistic and cultural work. Ioannis Mitrakas was a distinguished painter and Chief Hagiographer of the Holy Great Church of Christ of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, having dedicated his entire life to the ministry of art, the Orthodox faith and the defense of our cultural heritage.
The ceremony was a minimal tribute and gratitude to an enlightened man and a tireless worker of art.
