Beginning of the fourth camp season of the Diocese of Corfutranslated

July 22, 2026 · 1 min read

On the morning of Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the fourth camp period for high school and high school girls of the camps of the Holy Diocese of Corfu in Kassiopi began. The leader of the period is the elder Maria Kytili-Mourtzanou, educator, the deputy leader is Mrs. Evangelia Mourtzanou, educator, and the spiritual advisor is the General Hierarchal Commissioner of the Holy Metropolis, Prot. Themistocles Mourtzanos. About 115 girls participate, together with the executives, most of whom are students and participate voluntarily and with love for the children.

The consecration was performed on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 21 by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios. After the consecration, Mr. Nektarios heard beautiful camp songs and hymns from the girls, while he was delighted with their cheerfulness and vitality. Then, he spoke to the children and reminded that this year is dedicated to Panagia, as Pantanassa, as the queen of everything. Panagia was a simple girl of the people. But from the beginning of her life she had love for God, humility, prayer and remained pure in her life. Chastity is a virtue which today is despised,…

I am glad that elder Maria Kytili-Mourtzanou is the leader this year. The 115 girls with so many student volunteers show that the work is done with a lot of love. Metropolitan Nektarios did well and reminded them about purity, which indeed today most have forgotten.

Yes, President Μαρία Κυτιλή-Μουρτζανού is well chosen, she knows how to deal with young people. The 115 girls and all these student volunteers remind me of our little camps at the parish, you can see straight away when it’s done from the heart. The insistence of Mgr Νεκτάριος on the αγνότητα is right, today we hardly talk about it anymore.

Yes, President Μαρία Κυτιλή-Μουρτζανού really has a way with teenagers, I saw her at work last year at a class workshop. The 115 girls and students who give their time for free change everything. For αγνότητα, I agree with Mgr Νεκτάριος, it has become almost a dirty word in society, too bad.

I'm glad you liked the archegos choice too. I personally know Father Themistocles' sister from previous years in Kerkyra, and I know how calmly and orderly she leads the groups. Except 115 girls seems like a lot to me - isn't it hard for them to get to each one individually?

Yes, the president Μαρία Κυτιλή-Μουρτζανού is really in her place, I met her in Corfu two years ago during a parish celebration and we immediately felt that she knew how to listen to girls without rushing them. The 115 participants with these student volunteers must create a warm atmosphere like our small colonies at Saint-Séraphin. For the αγνότητα, it is true that it has become an almost taboo word, yet the Metropolitan Νεκτάριος did well to recall it starting from the very simple life of the Virgin.

I'm glad you know Father Themistocles' sister from previous years - she really keeps order without making too much noise. I agree with you about the 115 girls, it might be hard for them to get to each one individually, especially when most of the assistants are still students. What do you think, wouldn't it be better to split them into smaller groups next time?

Yes, I agree about αγνότητα, it has become a word that we almost no longer dare to pronounce. Last year I saw Ms. Mourtzanou lead a workshop on prayer with teenagers, she really knows how to do it without pointing them out. Let's hope that these two weeks in Kassiopi leave them with something solid.
