On Sunday July 19, 2026, Sunday of the 630 God-bearing Fathers of the Fourth Ecumenical Synod, the Metropolitan of New Jersey Mr. Apostolos presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint John the Theologian in Tenaflai, New Jersey. After the Liturgy, a memorial service was held for the repose of the souls of the victims of the illegal Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974. After the Mass, the Federation of Cypriot American Organizations hosted a reception for the 52nd anniversary of the Turkish invasion. Children of the Cypriot American Organization "Lapithos", together with its president, Mr. Stavros Kamilaris, opened the event with recitations of poems. This was followed by greetings and speeches by Dr. Panos Stavrianidis, president of the Hellenic Federation of New Jersey, Mr. Philip Christopher, president of the International Coordinating Committee "Justice for Cyprus", Mrs. Ifigenia Kanara, consul general of Greece in New York, Mr. Kyriakos Pogiatzis, consul general of the Republic of Cyprus in New York, Mrs. Aglaia Balta, permanent representative of Greece in UN, and Mrs. Maria Michael, permanent representative of the Republic of Cyprus in...

Yes, the children of Lapithos with their poems touched me too. It's good that the memory of 1974 remains alive, especially in the New Jersey community. Metropolitan Apostolos kept the funeral ceremony very dignified.
