Jerusalem: Official opening of Pilgrimage of Myrrh Bearers after completion of restoration worktranslated

July 30, 2026 · 1 min read

Report office ope.gr A major restoration work is taking place at this time in the Holy City, Jerusalem. This is the dome of the Holy Church of the Holy Myrrh-bearing Women, which is located near the Cathedral Church of Agios Iakovos the Brother of God. The Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos, accompanied by the Metropolitan of Capitoliad Mr. Hesychios, inspected and blessed the raising and placing of the cross on top of the dome.

The small dome next to the bell tower was destroyed by an earthquake in 1545 during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent, who also built the current walls of the Old City. A floor of the upper tower where the bells are placed was also destroyed by that earthquake.

According to exclusive information of ope.gr, the plans and studies for the restoration of the particular holy pilgrimage were made in Russia, while immediately after the completion of the work, the official opening will be held by the Primate of the Zionist Church.
