The Holy Monastery of Velanidia: Historical and spiritual center of Messinia (VIDEO)translated

The Holy Monastery of Velanidia, at the foot of Mount Taygetus, is an important historical and spiritual center of Messinia. There, in 1816, Papaflessas became a monk, while fighters started from the Monastery on March 23, 1821 for the liberation of Kalamata. Today, the Monastery keeps alive the memory of the Greek Revolution and the heroes of 1821. In this documentary we enter the cell of Papaflessas, learn the history of the Velanidia Monastery and see the impressive gallery of the Greek Revolution, with works dedicated to Kolokotronis, Karaiskakis, Kanaris, Bouboulina and other heroes of 1821.
