Press conference, held at the Offices of the Holy Diocese of Rethymno and Avlopotamos, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, where the co-organizing authorities announced the events in the current anniversary year, on the occasion of the completion of 160 years since the Holocaust and the Voluntary Sacrifice of the Heroes of Arcadia.

The press conference was held with the participation of:

1) of Rev. Metropolitan of Rethymno and Avlopotamos Mr. Prodromos, President of the Organizing Committee for the Events of the 160th anniversary of the Arcadian Voluntary Sacrifice,

2) the Vice-Regional Governor of the Regional Unit of Rethymno, Mr. Marys Lionis, on behalf of the Region and the Regional Governor of Crete, Mr. Stavros Arnautakis,

3) the Deputy Mayor for Culture of the Municipality of Rethymno, Mr. Manos Tsakonas, on behalf of the Municipality and the Mayor of Rethymno, Mr. Giorgis Marinakis, and

4) of Panosiol. Chief Theologian Papalevyzakis, Assistant Abbot of the Holy Patriarchal and Stavropegian Monastery of Arkadiou, on behalf of the Monastery's Professor, Panosiol. Chief Titus Vamvaka.

Thanks for the news. It is interesting that together with Metropolitan Prodrom and representatives of the authorities, Abbot Titos Vambvakas and Archimandrite Theolog are in the committee. Apparently, there will be a special atmosphere in the monastery on July 27, because it is their holy abode.
