How is musical notation proto-created, and how does it function? What do the new Sinaitic manuscripts reveal about the famous Chairestane? What is the rich history of ecclesiastical chant? What does the development of the Horologion, Sticherarion, Anastasimatarion, Papadike, and Troparia show us? Who was the world of Saint Peter Bereket? Why does Byzantine scale have these tones? What are mixed sounds and how is color understood in Eastern music? How much do we really know about the Typical that we apply daily? And how do we transform theoretical knowledge into psalmodic practice? The 4th Cycle of Seminars in Psalmodic Science & Art organized around four basic axes:

From ancient Byzantine writings and Byzantine Chairestane to new Sinaitic discoveries and the notation of Saint Peter Bereket, including modern analytical forms of writing.

HISTORY OF PSALMODY

Theophanes Karykas, Nicholas Dohiaritis, Peter Bereket, Jacob Protopsaltes, Horologion, Sticherarion, Anastasimatarion, Papadike. Chanting, repertoire, and psalmic traditions from the 16th to the 18th century and their subsequent development.
