Saint Sofian, celebrated at Antim Monastery: He was a father of this citytranslated

"During the dark years of communism, the Antim Monastery was an ever-burning candle, it was a light of resurrection here, in the heart of Bucharest, and Saint Sofian was a prophet, an apostle, a father of this city to which the most skilled intellectuals, as well as simple people, ran, seeking kindness, forgiveness and wise advice," said PS Varlaam Ploieșteanul on Wednesday.

The patriarchal vicar bishop officiated the Holy Liturgy at the Antim Monastery on the occasion of the feast of Saint Sophia.

His Eminence emphasized that the saint's pastoral and missionary activity was accompanied by his vocation as a church painter.

"For this, a lot of skill was needed so that in a time of persecution of the faith, the icon or painting of a church could truly become the alphabet, the book, the gospel that people could read without the help of words."

"This material painting has always been accompanied by the painting of the image of Christ in the hearts and souls that entrusted themselves to the care of Saint Sofian," added the patriarchal vicar bishop.
