The chapel of Agia Marina in the Dead Zone of Deryneia celebratestranslated

The Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia announces that it has again this year secured a License from the United Nations Peacekeeping Force for the operation of the chapel of Agia Marina located within the Dead Zone, next to the occupied beach of Deryneia. On Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. Vespers will be celebrated. On Friday, July 17, 2026 at 6:30 a.m. the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated and the pilgrimage will continue until 11:30 am.

The transition to the Byzantine chapel will be done by private cars and visitors are asked to comply with the instructions of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force to avoid any inconvenience, as well as with the markings for the smooth journey to Agia Marina.

It's good that they allowed it again. Last year we drove a car through the zone and everything went smoothly, we just had to strictly follow the UN instructions. I will be glad if this year I also manage to attend the Liturgy on July 17th.

This year I will try to drive on Friday morning for Liturgy. Last year they let us through without a problem, we just had to follow the UN signals correctly. I hope there are no long lines until 11:30.

I hope this year goes well for you too, Kristina. I've gone twice in the early morning and haven't waited long, but after 9:30 more cars start coming. If you arrive before 7:30, you will have quiet time to pray inside.

Thanks for the info. Last year we also went there by car and it was enough to follow the UN instructions exactly, everything went smoothly. This year I want to try to make it to the Liturgy on Friday morning before seven, so that there is quiet time for prayer inside before it fills up.
