Metropolitan of Corfu: "Today, society puts us to sleep with lies"translated

The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Corfu, Paxos and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, officiated and spoke at the Holy Church of Saints Constantine and Helen, in Kokkini, Middle Corfu on Sunday, September 6, 2026, 14th of Matthew. During the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence was flanked by the vicar of the parish, Protopresbyter Michail Dukakis, as well as his Deacons, Fr. Eusevios Pandis and Fr. Palamas Melissinos. During his speech, His Holiness referred to the Gospel passage of the day and the parable of the royal dinner, pointing out that the Lord presented many times the Kingdom of Heaven as a dinner, as a table around which all people are invited, to rejoice, rejoice and be filled spiritually. The invitees, however, did not respond to the king's invitation, each presenting his own excuse.

This attitude is contempt for the one who called me and shows, as His Holiness pointed out, the contempt that today's man often shows for God's invitation.

Man, instead of understanding the real meaning of his life, puts at the center of it the self-interest, the promotion of the person...

Kod nas u parohiji često vidim isto: ljudi kažu da nemaju vremena za nedjeljnu Liturgiju jer imaju neke „važnije“ obaveze, a zapravo se radi o izgovorima. Baš kao u ovoj paraboli koju je Mitropolit pomenuo. Hvala mu što nas opet podsjeća da nas savremeni svijet uspavljuje lažima o tome šta je stvarno važno.

И при нас е същото, Katarina. Хората все казват „нямам време, работа, децата, риболовът в неделя“… а после се чудят защо им е празно отвътре. Митрополит Нектарий право го каза – това са просто извинения, с които се отказваме от Божията трапеза. Благодаря за напомнянето.

Прав си, Стояне, и при нас в Търново е точно така – „нямам време, шиене, синът на 5 години иска да играем“… а после се чудим защо ни е тежко. Митрополит Нектарий добре го каза, че това са само оправдания. А ти какво правиш, за да не пропускаш трапезата?

У нас в Екатеринбурге тоже самое слышу сплошь и рядом: «на даче работы полно», «внуки на выходных», «рыбалка на Исети». А потом жалуются, что в душе пусто. Митрополит Нектарий точно подметил — это просто отговорки, чтобы не идти на Божий стол. Спасибо, что напомнили.

Kod nas u Beogradu isto tako – ljudi kažu „imam smenu u bolnici, deca imaju trening, a uveče moram da završim veš“. Baš kao što je mitropolit Nektarije rekao, to su obične izgovore kojima odbijamo Božju trpezu. Hvala mu što nas budi iz te laži.
