The first pastoral visit of Konitsis Alexiou to the historical Pyrsogiannitranslated

In the stone embrace of Grammos, where the mountains of Epirus still preserve the fragrance of the old times and the art of famous craftsmen speaks with the faith of generations, the historical Pyrsogianni lived yesterday, Sunday 19 July 2026, the blessed day of the first pastoral visit of His Eminence the Metropolitan of Dryinopolis, Pogoniani and Mr. Konitsis Alexiou. His Eminence, accompanied by the General Hierarchal Commissioner of the Holy Metropolis, Protopresbyter Fr. Nikolaos Konstantinidis, presided over the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, during the Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the 4th Ecumenical Synod, in the majestic Church of Agios Georgios, the pride of the village and one of the most important monuments of the ecclesiastical and folk architecture of Epirus.

The church, which dominates Pyrsoyianni, was erected in 1905 on the site of an older church from 1712 and is a living testimony of the faith and creative spirit of the local craftsmen. The ornate wood-carved iconostasis, the work of the famous Turnovite tailor Vassilios Skalistis, the simple and stately painted decoration of the Serbian painter Nikolic, as well as the despotic images of the Hioniadite hagiographers...
