Ieronymos of Larissa and Tyrnavos: "The Western Church in Schism"translated

We Greeks may not be interested in what is happening in the Church of Rome and in general in the Roman Catholic world, but historically, it has been proven that some of what is happening there, even with a difference of decades, finally comes and finds us Orthodox too, from some and others, anyone of good will can draw conclusions about developments around the world and interpret them. Officially, as of June 1, 2026, a new schism has occurred in the western church. The two remaining bishops of the Fraternity of Pope Pius X, in the presence of 15,500 Roman Catholics despite the torrential rain, ordained four new bishops in the Econ of Switzerland, without a "papal mandate", with the result that they were considered to have disregarded the stern warning that had been given to them addressed by Pope Leo XIV. As a result, not some "Synod of Bishops", but the "Tribunal for the Doctrine of the Faith", with the announcement of the President of Cardinal Victor M. Fernandes, fully obeying the order of the Pope, declared automatic excommunication for the two ordained bishops and the four newly ordained, he declared the Brotherhood of Pius schismatic as a whole...

I remember when the SSPX first started ordaining bishops back in '88 without Rome's okay — looks like the same story is repeating itself now with these four new ones in Ecône. The article says even the rain didn't keep 15,500 Catholics away, which tells you something about how attached people are to the old rite. Makes you wonder how long before some of those ideas start drifting into Orthodox circles too, like the piece warns.
