Multi-priestly Collaborator in N. Ionia, superior of the Archbishop of America Mr. Elpidophorostranslated

On the occasion of the completion of 100 years since the foundation of the Holy Church of Agios Stefanos in Nea Ionia, on Sunday July 12, 2026, a Solemn Multi-priestly Divine Liturgy was held, presided over by the Reverend Archbishop of America Mr. Elpidophoros and co-celebrants by the Reverend Metropolitans of Kalavryta and Aegialia Mr. Ieronymos and Nea Ionia Mr. Gabriel. The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Aeons, Mr. Makarios, was present praying inside the Holy Step.

The Divine Liturgy was attended by the Vice Prime Minister Mr. Kostis Hatzidakis, the pr. Prime Minister Mr. Antonis Samaras, Minister of Labor and Social Security Ms. Niki Kerameos, Minister of Health Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, Government Spokesperson Mr. Pavlos Marinakis, Members of Parliament Ms. Milena Apostolaki and Ms. Athina Linou, the pr. Regional Governor of Attica Mr. Georgios Patoulis, Deputy Regional Governor of the Northern Sector Ms. Margarita Varsou, as representative of the Regional Governor of Attica, representatives of the Regional Council, the Mayor of Nea Ionia Mr. Panagiotis Manouris, the Mayor of Heraklion Attica Mr. Nikolaos Bambalos, Members of the Municipal Councils of the three Municipalities of the metropolitan region, presidents and representatives…

Nice to see the 100-year mark for St. Stephen’s celebrated with a proper hierarchical Liturgy. Archbishop Elpidophoros serving with Metropolitans Ieronymos and Gabriel, plus Bishop Makarios praying in the sanctuary, must have made for a strong sense of continuity. The turnout from politicians like Samaras and Kerameos shows how much that parish still means to the whole area.

It’s good that we celebrated the centenary anniversary of the church with such a solemn service. Elpidoforos with Jerome and Gabriel together - it really looks solid and church-like. I wonder how many people eventually fit in the church, since so many officials came?

It is good that the church of St. Stephen in Nova Ionia was celebrated with just such a long-standing liturgy. Elpidophoros with Hieronymus and Gabriel together - it really looks solid. I wonder if there was enough room for all those ministers and deputies, or if some of them stood outside.

Yes, it turned out solemnly, especially when three bishops served together. But with ministers and deputies, apparently, as always - whoever is more important is in the middle, and the rest could really stand outside. I wonder if many parishioners even managed to squeeze through that day.
