Brilliant celebration of the memory of Saint John the Stranger in Megalo Metochitranslated

On Friday, September 18, 2026, the memory of Saint John the Stranger was celebrated with particular splendor, sanctity and the participation of a large number of believers in the Holy Church of the same name in Megalo Metochi. As it had been announced in time, the celebration took place exceptionally on Friday, September 18, as this year the day of the Saint's memory coincided with a Sunday.

The relevant decision was taken with the solemn blessing of the Reverend Metropolitan of Rethymno and Avlopotamos, Mr. Prodromos, so that the clergy can carry out their liturgical duties in their parishes on Sunday. In this way, on the one hand, no parish was deprived of the presence of its vicar and, on the other hand, the celebratory faithful were given the opportunity to come and honor the Saint, without being absent from the Sunday Divine Liturgy of their parish.

The worship program began at 18.30 with the celebration of the Grand Solemn High Priestly Vespers, during which His Eminence Metropolitan Mr. Prodromos officiated, flanked by clergy and the Deacon of the Holy Metropolis, with the participation of a large congregation.
