Press release of six new nuns at the Holy Monastery of Taxiarchon Pelion (PHOTO&VIDEO)translated

July 16, 2026 · 1 min read

On the day of the feast of our Holy Father Nicodemus of Agioreitos, Tuesday July 14, 2026, the christening of six probationary nuns took place at the Holy Monastery of Taxiarchon Pelion.

The ceremony took place in the presence of the Professor of the Holy Great Monastery of Vatopedi and spiritual leader of the Monastery, Elder Ephraim. This spiritual joy for the brotherhood came as part of the feast of the Holy Saint, Holy Nicodemus, whose name is borne by the Prioress of the Monastery, Gerontissa Nikodemi.

On the morning of Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Elder Ephraim officiated at the memory of the Saint in the Catholic Church of the Monastery. Afterwards, in Archontariki during the established monastic feast, the Professor of I.M.M. Vatopediou addressed a speech of spiritual edification to the sisters and the believers present, referring to the form and work of Saint Nicodemus.

I am glad that Elder Ephraim was there and spoke about Saint Nicodemus. Six young nuns together are a great joy for the brotherhood. Gerontissa Nikodemi will be proud.

Yes, Katerina, six together is rare and gives courage to the whole brotherhood. Elder Ephraim spoke very simply about Osios, as if he knew him personally. How did you meet the monastery?

Χαίρομαι που η ρασοφορία took place exactly on the day of του Οσίου Νικοδήμου που φέρει και η Γερόντισσα. Εxι together is indeed σπάνιο, as if ο Θεός gives strength to the brotherhood. Γέροντα Εφραίμ, η του του στο άρχονταρίκι τα τις ενικήσε πολύ.

It's true, Thea, six together is really rare. I read yesterday that the name of Geront Nicodemus is also connected to this day, so it took on even more significance. It would be interesting to know what exactly Geron Ephraim said in Archontarik, did you hear anything?

I am also happy that Gerontissa Nikodemi sees so many young women entering with her on the same day as the memory of the Saint who bears her name. Last year when we went on a pilgrimage to Pelion with my parents, the atmosphere in Archontariki was just like that, quiet and family. Have you visited the monastery lately?

It's true Ketevan, six together is really rare, and the connection with Geront's name Nicodemus makes this day even more beautiful. I was in the monastery yesterday and Geron Ephraim in Archontarik spoke very simply about the books of Hosea, how he read them in his youth and how they help today. What interests you the most in this story?

No, I didn't get to go this year, but last May I spent an afternoon there after walking around Pelion and I remember exactly that quiet atmosphere you describe. I am glad that Gerontissa Nikodemi sees so many young women continuing. When do you plan to go again?
