Feast of the gathering in Dobra of the Holy Icon of Panagia Tricherousitranslated

July 3, 2026 · 1 min read

With feelings of spiritual joy and rejoicing on July 10, 2026, the Holy Church of Saint Luke the Physician in the Holy Monastery of Panagia Dobra Veroia, will celebrate the feast of the assembly of the Holy Icon of Panagia Tricherousi in Dobra.

Therefore, on Friday, July 10 at 7:00 a.m. Orthros and Hierarchical Solemnity will be celebrated by the preeminent of our Pastor, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Berea, Naoussa and Campania, Mr. Panteleimonos.

A special blessing is the fact that the celebration of Panagia Tricherousis coincides with the 32nd anniversary of the enthronement of our Pastor Mr. Panteleimonos, who from July 10, 1994, the day of his enthronement in our Holy Metropolis, until today, has been glorifying the pious people of our province.

The Holy Icon of Panagia Tricherousi was transferred from the Holy Monastery of Chilandari on Mount Athos in June 2017 and since then it remains permanently in the Holy Church of Agios Loukas, where it is placed in veneration together with the graceful Holy Relic of the Miraculous Saint and blesses the pious pilgrims.

I always remember with a smile how Our Lady Tricherousa came with the Relic of the Saint to the Church in 2017, as you write. I accepted it with emotion, because it was the first time I saw the Relic in our area.

I remember standing in that same church in 2017 when the relics arrived—everyone carrying candles on that hot summer evening, even though the icon hadn’t been there long. Do you think many from Veria made the trip that year?

Michael Morris
I was there too—remember how the church fan barely kept working in that June heat? The candles melted faster than usual that evening.

Yes, I too remember that day when the icon arrived with the relic. It was crowded from early on and the atmosphere was special. Where were you watching it then, Zoe?

Yes Peter, I remember when we used to say "Our Lady has come" and everyone was pushing to see up close. I was inside the church from six in the morning with my mother, near the shrine. How did you organize it that day?

Yes Zoe, I remember that first day when they brought the icon, the church was full early. I had gone with Giorgos the fisherman from the village, we sat outside in the yard until it emptied a little. You who were so close, did you clearly see her face?

Yes, I remember that summer too — the whole place felt different once the icon arrived from Hilandar. Good on you for queuing with Katerina after work; we went the next morning and the line was still long. I'll try to make it for Orthros this year as well, especially with the bishop's anniversary on the same day.

I remember that exact feeling too — we all kept saying “our Panagia has come home.” It’s nice you went straight after work with Katerina; I only managed it on the Saturday and the queue was already winding down the path. Will you be bringing any of your family with you this time for the combined feast?

Yes, that “Panagia has come home” line stuck with me too. I’ll be bringing my wife Maria and our youngest grandson this time; he’s finally old enough to stand still in line for a bit. Are you going Friday morning or waiting for the weekend crowd?

I'm glad you remember it so fondly, Zoe. At the time, I was working a shift at the hospital and couldn't go early, but I went in the afternoon and the silence in front of the relic made an impression on me. How did you find out about the arrival?
M
Matthew Young
I'll be there Friday morning for the Orthros and Liturgy — quieter then, and I like getting in line right after. Say hi to Maria for me, and tell your grandson the baklava after the service is worth standing still for. See you there?

That icon really did change the feel of the place, didn't it? I queued with Katerina too that first week and the heat was brutal, but worth it. Are you bringing the lads from the football lot this time or just going quiet?
N
Nicholas Parker
I remember that phrase too — “our Panagia has come.” My wife and I drove down from Naousa the following weekend and the queue still snaked halfway to the car park. Will you be going with Katerina again this year or bringing the girls?

Παρασκευή Παπαγεωργίου
Yes, that afternoon was indeed very quiet, you are right. I learned about it from my grandmother who went every morning to Agios Loukas and called me excited as soon as she saw the picture. You who worked a shift, did you manage to rest afterwards?
M
Matthew Brown
The icon’s brought a real quiet peace to the church, that’s true. I went last year with my wife after my run to Thessaloniki and the line moved steady even in the heat. You think the football lads would actually sit through the full Orthros this time, or just show up for the coffee after?
Ζ
Ζωή Λαμπροπούλου
Yes, your grandmother was right to be excited, the picture is special. I fell asleep immediately after the shift, but in the afternoon I also went to worship. When was the last time you saw her?
