Arrest of a 53-year-old man for a fire caused by the burning of waste on Mount Athostranslated

In particular, a 53-year-old citizen was arrested as part of the spontaneous procedure for negligent arson by investigative officers of the Mount Athos Karion Fire Service.
The fire occurred yesterday, Saturday, September 5, 2026, at around 2:15 p.m., near the Holy Seat of Agios Simeon of the Holy Monastery of Chilandari.
According to the preliminary investigation data, the arrested person burned waste in a metal barrel, as a result of which the fire escaped and spread to adjacent reeds, dry grasses and low vegetation, burning an area of approximately 40 square meters.
The fire was extinguished by the fire safety team of the Holy Monastery of Hilandari.
An administrative fine of 2,625 euros was imposed on the arrested person.
